Helping people recession proof their life using the power of the Internet

Blog

Any time you create a website or blog for your business, strive to keep things as simple as possible. As you are planning the site, the cunning approach is to deliberately work to create certain effects. Concerning ease of use, a pleasant environment really translates to purpose – the environment you create needs to be conducive to remaining on your site. You never want to be annoying, or have anything that causes that to happen. Too many ads, plus anything that moves around, will distract from reading content – annoying.

There has been an area of website design that is collectively known as usability. Since business and marketing has been going on for so long, prior to the web, then it stands to reason that some principles of marketing, if not all, would translate to the web. You basically want to create the right environment on your site, and there are very many impinging concepts on that. There are some universal usability qualities, and then some are more specific to the group in your audience. Obviously, identifying your clear demographic areas will enable you to address those differences in a successful manner.

You know very well that the web is one huge market with an incredible amount of products. There are too many for any single person to even think about marketing.

But product selection is your most important decision when it comes to being able to sell online. That is a total fact, and even experienced people can sometimes choose the wrong product. Research cannot be ignored here, and the most productive research is done on the market audience. The main mistake is that marketers will find something they think is great, and then try to persuade an audience to buy it.

You have more control and influence over your site environment than you realize. You can take the media you are using and really boost it using certain approaches. You have videos on your site, for example, but what matters to the reader is what is in the videos and not the fact you have them. If you give your visitors poor content in your videos, they will still be disappointed no matter what. The path to impressing people with your media and videos is by solid and meaty content they will want to chew on. You should learn more about how to use marketing segmentation in all your business processes. You will eventually find that you can make more money with this strategy. It should be pretty obvious that most people do not really take their web business too far, but you can do that using this model. There is so much you can do with an email list, and that is just one aspect of segmentation.

What you need to know about Google’s Panda Update…

As you probably already know Google did a massive update a few months back called their “panda” update.

The gist of the update was to get rid of junk websites that were ranking well in Google’s search results. (which in my opinion was a good thing anyway)

A lot of, let’s just call them “drama queens or kings”, have been posting all of the Internet that the “day’s of the small businesses doing SEO are over”.

Okay, so I’m going to warn you ahead of time that this is going to be a long post.

In the last post we talked about “Things You Say” and this week I’ll cover “Things You Do” to improve conversion rate on you websites.

Let’s get started…

Okay, so in my last post I talked about knowing your numbers and the importance of tracking. That was a pre-curser to everything else we’ll talk about w/ regards to CRO. If you don’t know where you started and you make a change you’ll have no idea whether the change was good or bad.

So I’ve had a lot of questions lately about Conversion Rates and how to improve your conversion rate. So I figured since I can’t do this in on post I’ll dedicate the next few weeks to discussing Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO).

First of all if you haven’t read my post called “Which is Easier: Doubling your Conversion Rate or your Traffic?” then read that as I think you’ll gain some good insight on why CRO is so important.

I’m going to try and break the posts up in a sequential format that make sense (at least I hope they do) so that each post will build upon itself. So here goes…

How many times have you watched a commercial or an infomercial on your television and realized that the advertisers have gone much too far with the hype for their product?

You often see people (in fake testimonials even) saying that the product is some amazing creation sent from the heavens that will make your entire life better for less than the price of a full tank of gas.

Thinking how ridiculous this all sounds, you decide you have had enough television and you promptly get back to work on your marketing website. On a quick read through of your sales copy, you suddenly realize that your marketing hype is just as bad as the rubbish you just saw on that commercial.

There is a fine line between hyping your product enough to get people excited and going overboard on all of the unbelievable claims. Unfortunately, far too many fledgling Internet marketers (and master marketers alike) fail to notice where that line begins and where it ends.
