Vern,

There's a lot of buzz around right now b/c of all of Google's updates but here's the bottom line (30 second version).

Google "Started" their Panda Update last February and they've continually made changes or updates to that update.

Links are still important but have been "devalued" in a sense to make room for Social Factors (User experience, User Interface, Backclicks, Social interactions [likes, Pluses, etc]) the Key is still (and has been) to have a good mix of links (i.e. articles, directories, bookmarks, etc) now we're just adding the need to be more engaged socially with our users.

Long story short, YES, links are still important but gone are the days when you could just spam thousands of links to your site in hopes to own the first page in Google.

Yeah, Google just did another update, this one called the "Penguin Update" and many sites have seen some movement downwards.

The key is to continue to provide excellent content for your subscribers (website visitors) and continue to do link building but focus more on content linking rather than unrelated one-way in bound links.

Here's an article you might find helpful on this topic: http://searchengineland.com/penguin-update-recovery-tips-advice-119650

i got 2 websites. Both sites were performing very well till last week. One of the site just vanished from 1 page of google search to the darkest palce in the universe and cannot be found. Now this site, i never did any updates, was made in html and is still on PR2.

My other website, is still visible and still in good rankings. I made that on wordpress and kept on adding new contents to different pages 2 times a week.

are backlinks really that valuable. Should I invest my time in setting them up. I thought I had read somewhere that they aren't as valuable as they used to be.

Nigel,

I would suggest going w/ a service like BacklinkBuildr.com. The "Full Speed Ahead" package offeres a 10 site link wheel each month.

If not a service like that I would use FreeLancer.com and post a project there to have a link wheel done.

Hope that helps.

Hi Joe,
All a little confusing for me at the minute, just been listening to your vid about profile page rank, then found this page. Can you recommend someone to construct a link wheel for me?
Regards Nigel.
